About Seligman Commercial Historic District
Seligman Commercial Historic District is an editorial resource for travelers drawn to Route 66 and the small-town Americana that survives along it. We take our name from Seligman, Arizona — a town of about 450 people that became the unlikely epicenter of one of America’s great preservation stories.
In 1987, Angel Delgadillo — a barber whose family had lived in Seligman for generations — organized his neighbors to fight the economic death that had followed the Interstate bypass of 1978. The Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona was founded at that meeting. What happened next is part of American road culture now: the Mother Road found its advocates, its tourists, and eventually its national protection.
We cover Seligman and the Route 66 corridor through the lens of that story — the people, the roadside stops, the diners and drive-ins, the preservation battles won and lost, and the practical details that help visitors make the most of a trip that rewards going slowly.
What We Cover
Seligman — the town itself: its history, its landmarks, its surviving businesses, and the families who stayed when the Interstate tried to kill it.
Route 66 — road trip guides, stop-by-stop coverage from Seligman toward Kingman and beyond, and the broader story of the highway.
Food & Drink — the Delgadillo’s Snow Cap Drive-In, the roadside diners that have served Route 66 travelers for decades, and the new businesses keeping the culture alive.
History — the preservation movement, the bypass, the revival, and the people who made it happen.
Travel Tips — practical advice for driving this stretch of Arizona: when to go, how long to allow, where to stay, and what to know before you arrive.
Editorial Standards
Seligman Commercial Historic District does not accept sponsored posts, paid placement, or affiliate links. Our coverage reflects considered editorial judgment, not commercial sponsorship — we’d rather tell you a place is closed than tell you to go there because someone paid us to say so.
The Editors
Articles are published under the collective byline “The editors of Seligman Commercial Historic District.” This site does not name individual authors. The editorial team comprises travel and history writers with experience covering Route 66, Arizona, and roadside Americana — but we attribute work to the publication rather than to individuals, because the site is intended as a long-term editorial reference rather than a personal-byline platform.
A Note on the Name
Our brand uses the official “Seligman Commercial Historic District” designation — a registered National Register of Historic Places district. We chose the name because it accurately describes our editorial scope. We are not affiliated with the NRHP, the National Park Service, the Town of Seligman, the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona, or any preservation organization. Our coverage is editorial commentary, not official information from any of those bodies.
